The Homework Nook: The Bilibo

This is a fabulous tool that I spotted in a friend's 3rd grade classroom- the Bilibo.  She had four of them scattered around the room and her students used it as little chairs. They could sit in it during silent reading time or turn it around and use it as a "turtle shell" when working with a partner. 

Add it to your homework nook to create a special space for your little one to read and sit.  And, like the core ball, it allows children to wiggle, which after a long day at school is just what they need.

Cool Tools: The Mini Whiteboard

Kids love individual whiteboards. There's something about being in power of  their own mini whiteboard (or chalkboard) that excites them. In my years of teaching, this was one of the best all-around educational tools that provided my students with excellent learning opportunities. It was so cute, I would often see my students doing "teacher talk" when working with these boards independently.  

Teachers have a ton of tools they use at school to make learning fun. Many of them can be used at home too!   From reviewing math facts, drawing pictures to solve math problems, to practicing spelling words, the educational opportunities of this mini board are endless. Try having different colored markers or purchase magnetic letters or numbers...it just adds to the whole experience.  Think of it as a little out of the box, hands on way to break the pattern of typical pencil and paper work at home.
